Leitat

Leitat is a private technical institute with more than 110 years of experience in industrial innovation processes. We transform technological and scientific results into economic and competitive value for our clients and collaborating entities. We bring knowledge and innovation to our customers through applied research and technical testing in the fields of chemistry, energy, environment, materials, engineering and life sciences. We rely upon our 240 highly skilled team members who deliver flexible solutions to face any industrial challenge.

Its headquarters are in Terrassa, it has offices in Barcelona, Vilanova del Camí, and Valencia. In 2015, Leitat opened offices in Santiago and in 2017 in Concepción.

History

Leitat has its origins in 1906

When a group of industrial textiles have joined forces to create an association to support the companies called Tarrasanse conditioning. In 1908, completes its facilities with a laboratory for chemical analysis-textiles, which will be the embryo of the Laboratorios de Ensayos e Investigaciones Textiles del Acondicionamiento Tarrasense (LEITAT).

Into the 21st century

With the relocation of textile production, Leitat refocuses its activities to improve the competitiveness of the textile companies becoming Technological Center. The finding that a need can be is using various technologies and that a technology can be used for different needs, transforms Leitat Technological Center in a multisectoral and with a strong growth in both income and staff since 2005.

Opening Chile offices in 2015

In 2008 Leitat creates Leitat Foundation, with the objective of expanding the promotion of R&D, maximize their economic impact and bet on the scientific talents. Leitat Foundation opens its facilities in the city of Santiago de Chile in 2015 and becomes Leitat Chile.

Activities

Leitat, during its more than 100 year old history, has offered solutions of high added value to the technological challenges demanded by companies, with a clear vocation and orientation to adapt to the constant changes of the market. We support sustainable growth through the promotion of R&D and technology transfer, in the context of creating lasting value for companies, satisfying the constant changes in the demands of the global market.

Leitat provides R&D services in the areas of material sciences, chemistry, biotechnology, energy, environment and production, jointly developed with a great experience in technology transfer to various sectors. In particular, we work in the field of Energy, Maritime, Agroindustry and Food, Mining, Health and Biomedicine, Chemical, Construction, Textile and Packaging. Among other advanced technological services we carry out, we highlight laboratory tests, reaction to fire studies, dimensional metrology studies and conformity assessments of Personal Protective Equipment.

Leitat is part of the European innovation scheme, where it participates in an active and relevant way in many projects and initiatives, especially in the current Framework Program for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020.
